The Sunswift 7 solar-powered electric car has covered 1,000 kilometres on a single charge

The Sunswift 7 solar-panelled electric car, created by specialists from Australia’s University of New South Wales (UNSW), has become a world record holder in its class – it covered 1,000 kilometres on a single charge in less than 12 hours at a speed of over 80 km/h.

The Sunswift 7 weighs just half a tonne. For comparison, the weight of a Tesla electric car is between 1,900 and 2,180kg. For the sake of this, we had to sacrifice some systems, including air conditioning, ABS and airbags.

After their child “lost weight”, the developers focused on improving aerodynamics and reducing the coefficient of air resistance. The record-breaking electric car has 0.095 (for comparison, the same Tesla has 0.208).
